Summer Programs

Summer Sundays

Children, in Pre K to Third Grade, meet outside on the playground just before the start of the 10 am service. Children play for 15 minutes before we begin our Children’s Worship service outside or inside (weather dependent).

During Coffee Hour, children enjoy creating a different craft each week at the two craft tables set up in our new parish hall. The weekly craft is planned for children, ages 4 to 8. But we find that most children enjoy this activity – even the young teens!

Vacation Bible School

Each summer, Grace hosts a Vacation Bible School summer camp from 9 am to Noon for a week. Thirty-five to 40 children participate in this event, which is held for children, ages 4 through Grade 6. Youth in Grades 7, 8 and 9 help out as camp counselors, and a theme-based curriculum is followed. Children enjoy classes in music, storytelling, games, crafts and a community snack each day.

The week is concluded with a Family Dinner/Performance night on Thursday evening and Field Trip Friday, in which campers travel to a local site to reinforce the week’s learning. In 2007 we went to a synagogue after studying the Jewish traditions described in the Old Testament. In 2008 we met at the Great Swamp Outdoor Education Center and enjoyed Layers of the Forest, a guided tour of the swamp with a Great Swamp naturalist. This event reinforced our understanding of stewardship, our call to take care of our planet home.
