Pizza Compline
Compline is the nighttime service of the church that had developed by the 6th Century.
Here at Grace Church n the first Wednesday of every month, from October to May,
we have a special event called Compline for Kids, but better known as
"Pizza Compline." All children and their families are invited to meet in the
church kitchen at 5:45PM to make pizza under the expert leadership of Fr. Scot and
his team of pizza preparing parents. Pizza dough, tomato sauce and shredded
mozzarella cheese are all provided. Families are encouraged to bring their favorite
toppings for their pizzas.
While the pizzas are in the oven, children work on a service project such as
making cards for people in nursing homes. After we eat our fresh, hot pizzas we move
into the church for the compline service. Fr. Scot is usually the officiant and he
offers a brief children’s homily. Dr. Anne Matlack plays the organ and leads us in
song. It’s the children, however, who are front and center – always volunteering as
acolyte, bell-ringer, and oblation-bearer. Children also often play musical instruments.
It’s always a wonderful evening for both adults and children, filled with laughter,
tomato sauce stains, and heartfelt prayers. All are welcome to join us. Contact Fr.
Scot or Mary Lea Crawley for more information.
